Tuesday, July 20: Sugar Sugar Sugar

The New Frontier Lounge

By Jason Baxter on July 14, 2010

Heavy, blues-adelic rock can be just as indulgent as hard candy - so, so tasty but wildly unhealthy at the same time. Lucky for Bellingham garage trio Sugar Sugar Sugar, there's nothing explicitly injurious about their pseudo-revivalist riffage; they're hardly ear-splitting but do rely heavily on the unwholesome power of scorching fretwork. Toss in some judiciously-employed cowbell and some straightforward, half-convincing, found-in-a-time-capsule lyricisms, and you have a pretty, uh, sweet package.

Sugar Sugar Sugar's mammoth jams go down easy, and will melt in your mouth just as handily as they will melt your face off. This has to be why they called their latest release Can't Get Enough. Diabetics beware.
